Electric Primers?

Got an Email form Midway that they had some CCI and Remmington primers in stock so I took a quick look to see prices and noticed "Remington EtronX Electric Primers" at $215/1000 must be something special really special.

The other prices were more reasonable $30-45 per 1000, but selection wasn't great.

As far as I know those electric primers are used in... cannons from 20mm up. I might be wrong, though .

A number of years ago Remington came up with the idea of an electric ignition system on a line of their bolt action rifles. The idea was to improve "locktime" thus better accuracy. Fortunately or unfortunately the idea never caught on. IIRC the late Bob Milek had a hand in this. You might find better info on Wikipedia.
