Electronic hearing protection?

I am in the market for a new set of muffs. I am thinking I will give the electronics a try. The ones I am considering are the Peltor Tac 6 & Tac 7 models, and another member has a pair of the Radians that sound pretty good, so I'm considering those too. I would appreciate advice from people who have experience with these or other models that maybe I should consider. The Tac 6 muffs don't seem to have much sound proofing, 19db, but the Tac 7 muffs seem too wide for rifle (benchrest) use. Any advice? Thanks

I have a set of Tac 7's and they are the cats meow.

But I started out with handguns and when got my first rifle I realized that the deep cups prevent me from getting a good weld. My Mossberg even knocked them off once while I was shooting slugs.

Since the benefits are too good to pass up with the Peltors I'm planning on getting a set of Tac 6's to use with my long guns.

As Airwolf already stated, the Tac 7s are sweet but they're a little too big for long gun use. I have a set of Tac 6's that are my do-it-all set of hearing protection. Anything from a jackhammer outside to shooting

i finally broke down and got a set from dillon. i was taking a shooting class and thought it might be a good idea if i could hear the instructor. i bought the house brand...i was told that they were "badge engineered" tac-7's. don't know about that, but they do work very well and are very low-profile...but then i most shoot handguns

The Dillon muffs are made by CED; I've never heard anything bad about them, and I like the price. Anyone have a reason not to get them?

I picked up a pair of Remington R2000's at Walmart today. They cost $99

They have a decibel reduction rating of 19 to 21. That is not huge but it is a lot better than nothing and it is typical. Its important to know that they assume a seal with your head for this rating and sunglasses can severly reduce the rating if they run under the ear cups.

They also allow you to hear normal conversation and they cut out any time outside sound exceeds 84 Db.

I got em because I have an AR 15 with a compensator on it and it will make you deaf in less than five rounds. With these I can hear normally in the field and shoot without fear of hearing damage.

They are actually supposed to amplify normal sound a bit, there is a volume control to adjust that.

I can't wait to give em a go and see how they perform in the field.

Ive been wearing pelter tac 7s for several years and love them
But Harbor Freight has a cheap set for $20 that you might want to look at, they are electric and work really well
I bought several sets as loaners and they have worked out great
I guess it depends on how much you use them

gk1, thanks for the link. I was told by Dillon their muffs are made in USA. By your link it looks like they have headquaters in both US and Hong Kong, so hopefully what they told me was true. At any rate, they are on order, and I will post a review once I have used them for a while...
