England: Beyond gun control

the spirit of the law is there to protect us all.

Yep, that's what the anti's want us to believe, here in the USA, as well. But, as Hook686 (like the Smithie, do ya?) acknowledges, we as a country can easily fall in behind. We've all heard it, but it's as true as ever: "All it takes for the forces of evil to rule the world, is for a few good men to do nothing."

I have to agree, that rather than poke fun at, or ridicule Great Britain, we 'merikuns better start beating the drum louder and louder. We're truly not that far behind, and if you don't believe it, remember... many Brits and Aussies didn't think their guns would end up being taken, chopped, and smelted, either. And with the front-page drama in the papers every day, do you feel secure about this next presidential election? I sure don't. I'm likely to write in Rick and Bubba for president.

Sure wish half the energy used in this debate on internet forums was directed toward writing and calling and visiting your senators and congressmen.

Here's a wake-up for ya: do you even know the names of those who represent YOU in DC? If you don't, here's a hot tip: get off THR long enough to Google who they are, and let them know who YOU are and what YOU think.

But please, don't just do nothing.

And ranting on forums on the web is the same as doing nothing.

Very good words. Trust me, the Hon. Rep. Ted Poe, and Senators Cornyn and Hutchison and their staffs know very clearly where I stand on the RKBA, and WHERE I EXPECT THEM TO STAND, as my representatives.

There are numerous easy ways to contact your congress-critters. In descending order of impact:

1. hand-written letter (as long as it is clear and legible)
2. phone-call. you'll get a staffer, but they DO keep track
3. individually-written email
4. FAX that is part of a "blast" campaign. These achieve their impact through large numbers
5. pre-written post-card or cut-n-paste email.

NONE of this is difficult, and you have more influence than you know. Especially when you do one of numbers 1 - 3, they assume that you represent between 50 and 100 people who feel the same way but just can't be bothered to write / call.

Clarity, knowledge of the issues, thoughtfulness, and politeness (even if you are scolding them for a vote or position you dislike) all count.

Now go, get 'em.

thank you matt would you be able to contact me with some info on shooting rights groups and activism in the uk?

The problem I have with the uk is political correctness and the politics of the nation, oh and lash no offence and take this in the way it is intended you are talking claptrap. We could have and will survive without the US support in war and the background to the red uniforms is a morale thing along with a identification of nation and regiment (e.g. regiments wore diff shades which is still reflected in mess dress), basically you cant see the blood and your friends dieing and hey it could be worse look at the dutch uniform of the period.

As for the war of independace, the british surrendered to a dutch and a french contigent of forces supporting the rebels and america as a nation did not exist so it was a civil war and as for your world war 2 views come and pm me for a discussion on it or do your research.

These photos were taken a couple of years ago outside the South Kensington tube station in London.

As Americans, we couldn't believe what we saw. What whimps the British have become.

Looks like a convenient place to dispose of a recently used murder weapon.

Worth noting that those laws sound almost exactly like the ones in California. Remember: we lead the nation!

Wow and the knife shown is a basic utility type folding blade...

That's the way we see it. The way they see it:
1. The pointed blade can be used only to stab someone.
2. The smooth blade portion can be used only to cut someone deeply like a scalpel.
3. The serrated blade portion can be used only to cut someone and leave a nasty wound.
4. Having a thumb-stud means you're intent on harming someone because only a criminal would open a knife with one hand.
5. Having a lock-back means you're intent on harming someone because only a criminal would have to worry about having the blade close on his fingers while he was stabbing someone.
6. The knife is just scary-looking in general.

Politicians in Canada want another England

Look north its happening here. David Miller Torontos Mayor wants all guns banned. He was raised in England but get this born in 1958 San Francisco. So the socailist mind set is spreading like chicken pox. Miller is a former NDP we call it here, baby communists.
