EOTech or Aimpoint

I have just finished building a Stag 5.56, 16"barrel, flat top, with BUIS. I have taken it to the range and it works flawlessly.

Only problem is that I have old eyes and have trouble holding the sights on the target at much beyond 100yds. I have wanted to put a red dot on it, but I am not sure which one to use. I like the way the EOTech looks and I like being able to keep both eyes open, but the Aimpoint has the advantage of a little magnification.

I am looking for suggestions and your experiences with these two sights. I am not looking for extreme accuracy, I have a different rifle for that. I just want to shoot out to maybe 200 or 300yds.

Which Aimpoint? There are a dozen or so models and most (all?) are 1x optics (no magnification). There are 3x and 4x magnifiers for Aimpoints and Eotechs, but they're separate units and will work with either one.

If you're looking for bombproof durability, acceptable 'refinement' (size of dot), and easy adjustments, think Aimpoint. If you're looking for a less obscured view and a more 'refined' point of aim (1 MOA dot with a circle for close-in work), think Eotech. It's not as rugged or as quick to adjust, though.

Either one will allow you to shoot man-sized targets out to 300, and either one can/should be used with both eyes open.

Are you sure you are talking about the aimpoint and not the trijicon acog? Aimpoint's do not have magnification although you can purchase a 3x attachment if you choose. Therefore, you look through the aimpoint with both eyes open just as you do an Eotech (which also has an optional 3x magnifier). You are going to get opinions galore on which to buy but they are both excellent and nobody ever complains about either one. Get whichever you prefer.

Depends on the model. M2 is down at 10k, M4 is all the way to 80k

Funny thing, I just posted a review of both Aimpoint and Eotech in another thread. Rather then post a link to that thread so you could then follow *another* link, here it is again.

I have both an Eotech (N battery version) and an Aimpont C4.

Micro from Aimpoint

My 16" flat top wears an Aimpoint Micro T-1 perched upon a LaRue LT660.
No magnification needed at this time, but I can always add a magnifier later...
