On last Friday this fellow showed up on my trail camera. I had seen smaller boars on that feeder some weeks ago, mostly females and piglets, so this guy was bad news (male boars usually wipe out the competition and scare other boars).
One of his noticeable characteristic was the waves on his hair, and you can see them here:
Recently made teeth marks wad showed up on trees near by, so it was clear that he was signaling his territory to keep others away:
So, last Sunday night I decided to go wait for him to another feeder near by (I could not go to where we was photographed before because the wind was blowing in the wrong way). I got there around 17h.30m (5.30 pm) and kept my eyes in the next hill. At around 23h.00m (11 pm) he finally showed up and went straight to a stone that cover a pile of corn 93 meters away from where I was. When he started to eat, I grab the gun and took the shot the minute he got sideways (pointing right). No arguing, just fell on his legs.
Fat dude but no big teeth, lol:
Here you can clearly see the waved hair:
After a mobile call, my dad and my dog appeared. No need for tracking the boar this time, but we should bring our dogs anyways, to remind them what they should look for in the night if we wound a boar in the future:
30.06 benelli argo with zeiss varipoint 3-12x56T and a Prvi Partizan bullet, the one in the picture with the nose smashed, lol. Strangely, didn’t fragmentate and behaved like a nosler partition or a federal trophy tip.
