I agree that it's hardly germane to any discussion of the 2A. However, I can see the frustration inherent in this type of activity.

Right. So what does it accomplish if we think an anti-gunner isn't a good enough anti-gunner so we call that person a condescending name?

Does it help promote the 2nd amendment? Nope.
Does it help convince anti-gunners to change sides? Nope.
Does it foster opening a positive dialog with anti-gunners? Nope.

Does it make some people feel morally superior to anti-gunners because they think themselves to not be hypocrites based on some arbitrary criteria we establish during a time in which the 2A is under attack and Congress may decidedly vote in new anti-gun laws? Maybe so.

What other purpose does calling anti-gunners "hypocrites" for not having big signs serve?

yes it does, it helps to get a anti gun person to think.
and once you get there attention away from Britney, they often open up for a dialoge and at the end of that you often end up taking them to the range and let them shoot, suddently they are no longer vivid Anti Guners but either like Gun or tolerate them.

Most of the people labeled "anti-gunners" are actually just "non-gunners".
As was said already, they don't think in terms of gun-zones and gun-free zones. They do not think in gun terms at all.
Heck, I myself do not live most of my life thinking in "gun-terms". Just like I don't think in hammer-terms, or computer-terms. I don't put a sign outside my home which says "MAC-Free Zone". Hammers, computers, guns, etc....they are all just tools.
BTW- How many put a sign on their house stating it is a Rosie O'Donnell free zone?
And yes, I think the "Protected by Smith & Wesson" signs are goofy and just asking for a burglary.

There's a reason gunmen attack places with 'no firearms signs' as I previously stated, the best damned body armor is to be in a place where there are no guns. It's stupid to post a 'we're anti-gun' sign outside your house.

Unless you're not anti-gun, do indeed have a gun, and you're just waiting to see who'd break in your house to take advantage of you. In which case that'd make you a bastard and I commend you for it!

Really? Posting a thread on a gun forum about how it is felt that anti-gun people are hypocrites to their cause for not putting up outrageous signs causes them to think? About what, the wrongness of their ways? Okay, then what causes gun owners to think?

How many hypocrite anti-gunners you think are going to read this thread that you are going to be able to invite to go shooting?

Let's frame it another way. Do you think as a Republican (if you are) that called a Democrat as hypocrite for not being the kind of Democrat you think that person should be that you will make that person think about being such a terrible Democrat or about the fact that maybe you are clueless about the situation?

I don't know about being gutless. They go a lot more places willfully unarmed that I would not go - even knowing themselves that the areas are dangerous.

I think the easiest answer is "anti's" are not stupid. Why advertise that you are unarmed and ripe for the picking. That just makes sense. And frankly it makes me feel better about owning a gun, or 10. I like the idea that that criminal is in a crap shoot when chosing a house or a person. Why should we allow anyone to be easy pickings just because they dont believe exactly what you might. I think we if relaize that some "anti's" are not really the poster toting, rally attending type. They might just think that a fully automatic AR or AK does not have a place in society.

**Edit** Lets not lump all non gun owners/ non gun supporters into an ANTI category. Would you like it if you were categorized as something you are not so that it helps the argument of the other side? At that point we are as bad as them. I am sure that there are people that just dont think about it. I know that I bring it up to people and try to give my side of story so they can form an opinion that is not bias. That is how I am trying to change the world. Not posting derogatory comments about a group of people that I evidently know nothing about to a board where they will most likely never go. I challenge everyone to get out and try to understand the reason a person wanting gun control (control could mean different things) and tell your side of the story. you may be a hunter or a USPSA shooter. Show them some video, offer to cook them dinner with the game you have taken, explain how much your family saves by putting a deer in the freezer every year, and god forbid that you offer to take them to the range and see what it is all about.***



Sorry this turned into a little bit of a rant but some of the responses that I read might end up being the reason why gun bills get passed.

gun bills get passed because stupid gun owners think it can't happen and dont bother to vote.almost 2 million gun owners in Mass makes my case.and all the gun owners that voted for obama because they did not like McCain.
I did not like McCain but voted for him because I felt he would put in good judges on the SCOTUS.and I also felt Palin would benifit us by here progun stance.
there is a poster here who may have a diferent slant on the people who he knows and you bashed him.not good.me I have seen this country go from progun to anti.any who lived before WW2 know what I mean.rifle teams in schools,and more.:banghead:
