Not a 1911, but similar....I've also conducted a search with no usable results......I have an AMT Backup 45ACP and it used to operate flawlessly. After I relocated in 1996, I lost my shooting ranges, and didn't shoot the gun until two months ago. I had a problem with primers not detonating, and a new hammer spring cured that, but over the last 100 rounds, it has gotten to where it doesn't want to extract the case (brass and steel cases). It was leaving the case either sticking half out of the barrel with the new round trying to come up and resulted in the slide staying open, but it also would fully rechamber the case, at times. At first it was one every 10 rounds or more, but last night, it got to be every round in the last two mags.
I was thinking that if the hammer spring went bad while sitting (the replacement was the same number of coils and wire gauge, but it was 1/4" longer), maybe the extractor spring went bad, too (less tension?). Should I thoroughly clean and lube the extractor and see if this helps, or should I just replace the spring and clean and lube everything while it is apart? The extractor itself, shows no signs of damage, such as tip breakage.
