I'm very slowly building up to starting my reloading - I've got the press (Lee Classic Turret) assembled and have decided to start with .45 ACP. Somewhere along the line, somebody recommended Accurate No. 7 to load with .45, so that's what I have - problem is, neither my Lee book nor my Hornady book have load data for No. 7 to go with my 230g FMJ bullets. They do have No. 7 listed for 230g LRN, however - can that data somehow be safely transferred to FMJ?

Latest Accurate load data (version 5.0) has jacketed load data for 230 gr Hornady XTP and Remington Golden Saber but they are HP bullets not FMJ - http://www.accuratepowder.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/WP_LoadSpec_1-23-14.pdf

There is load data for Berry's plated 230 gr RN which shows lower start/max charge than Laser Cast lead 230 gr RN so I would suggest you reference the plated load data for 230 gr FMJ.

Even though load data lists 1.237" for COL, length that works reliably for your pistol/barrel maybe different. Walkalong has an excellent thread on determining max/working COL. Reference the thread to determine the working COL before you conduct your powder work up from the start charge - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=506678

45 Auto/ACP Accurate NO. 7

230 Hornady XTP Start 9.5 gr (822 fps) - Max 10.5 gr (933 fps) 20,100 PSI COL 1.230"

230 Remginton GS Start 8.5 gr (822 fps) - Max 10.0 gr (943 fps) 20,990 PSI COL 1.225"

230 (Plated) BERRY RN Start 8.6 gr (800 fps) - Max 10.1 (945 fps) 20,777 PSI COL 1.237"

230 (Lead) Laser Cast RN Start 9.9 gr (862 fps) - Max 11.0 gr (979 fps) 19,400 PSI COL 1.230"

Yes but as always start at the low end and work up. Use a light taper crimp so as not to crack the thin plating.

To be honest when plated bullets first came around the plating was fairly heavy and no much different than FMJ. I do not use them anymore but imagine then have thinned out a bit. Berrys seemed to have a good plating. The only real difference is in higher velocities so you are not going to exceed 1200 fps with a 45.

Low to midrange FMJ data is fine.

To be clear, I'm NOT loading plated bullets - I'm loading FMJ with Accurate No. 7 using load data for plated, since I can't find load data for FMJ for No. 7.
And no, I won't be pushing the envelope for my first attempt at reloading, just looking for a load that'll cycle my Sig P220.

On the other hand ...

I do have a lot of 230g LRN bullets as well, but no appropriate gun to shoot them from - I only have my Sig and Glocks in 45. Clearly I need a 1911 to shoot these lead bullets from, right? Oh yeah, don't have a job, need to save money, not spend it...

Sorry, I had is bass akwards:D Either way, yes you can use the plated data for the FMJ, I honestly do not think there is that much difference in them as far as load data. When I used plated I loaded them as FMJ so I think the reverse would apply.

bds gave you dat for the xtp and the Golden saber. The COL will be different but you can use that data at the low end and work up. Sorry for the confusion. A mind is a terrible thing to loose!

Speer manual #14 gives data for their GDHP with AA #7 low of 8.6 to max of 9.6. Again the bullet nose is different so the COL is not the same as a FMJ RN which should be around 1.260 but you need to do the plunk test in your barrel.

You can shoot lead from you Sig all day long. I do.
