Hello all,

I just got my new P226 9mm threaded barrel in the mail after months of being unable to find one for a decent price. The packaging looks right with official Sig Sauer packaging, and the BBL-226-9-T product number on it. The packaging wasn't sealed, but I think that's normal for these barrels.

I tried to insert this barrel into both of my P226s. It is extremely tight and just barely doesn't fit on either of the pistols. I've searched around and found that factory Sig barrels are a bit tight and might need some work to make them fit. Does Sig do that for free, or will I need to do it myself or get a gunsmith.

Anyway, before I make a call to customer support to ask for info, I want to make sure that this is indeed a SigSauer barrel. The markings are a little fishy.

The right side is different from what I've seen before.

The left side is missing the SigSauer logo.

Top hood is coated, and I've never seen that on a sig barrel.

Anybody familiar with these markings?

Besides the markings and the slight misfitting, the barrel seems normal. I lined up both barrels and don't see much of a difference between them visually.

Thank you for the help.

Hmmmm. I've never seen one of the threaded barrels, so that might be normal. Is the ramp really sharp at the bottom? Like on the two points? Sig likes to keep that part nice and sharp on most every factorty sig barrel I've ever seen.

Also, is it a 40 to 9 conversion barrel? Could explain why it's so tight. Is your sig US or German made?

Since the barrel to slide lockup basically dominates group dispersion I don't see how you can expect a "drop in" fit and good results.

I had to do a bit of fitting when I got a threaded SIG barrel for my P220, I believe it said fitting required in small print on the packaging.

I don't know if they are different, but I have 357 sig barrels that I bought for my P229 and P239 (both were .40 originally), the barrels just dropped in on those.

Yep it's sharper than my original barrels. The quality of this new threaded barrel definitely seems good to my untrained eyes. I don't see anything blatantly wrong with it.

Yep you are right. The package says in small print "A qualified gunsmith may need to install this part."

I'm still a bit uneasy by the markings, but I guess that's just the way they come. I'll research around to see if I can handle the fitting myself, but otherwise I'll be checking in with a gunsmith.

Thanks all. If anybody has any info on the markings I'm still interested to find out about that.

The markings do look odd. It is entirely possible that Sig has these threaded barrels made by a 3rd party.

I had to fit the front edge of the barrel hood on my P239 threaded bbl, and that one was a DE/German barrel.

With SIG nowadays, who made yours is anyone's guess, but I'm guessing the barrel hood needs to be relieved.

Here's an update.

I found this thread. It seems like it asks the same questions, but doesn't really have a solid answer.

I called customer service at SigSauer and asked them for information. They said that about 10 months ago they changed the barrel manufacturing process. The entire barrel is now covered in their Nitron finish, even the barrel hood. The lack of the SigSauer label on the left side of the barrel is not something we should be concerned about.

As for the fitting of the barrel, the customer service rep said that it should drop right in and fit without any issues. I offered to send them some pictures of the differences in fit so they could see the problem. I'll send those out later tonight.
