My DSA FAL is finally running consistently with the gas set at 4 but as the brass is ejected it seems to hit the receiver just behind the ejection port and there are numerous small dents here now. Does this indicate too much gas?

It is supposed to do that. You can modify it so that it doesn't, or you can stick a piece of electrical tape on there, or you can run it as the design intended and embrace the brass kisses.

Yes, love it and move on.

Your FAL is running properly :)

You didn't want it to stay pretty forever did you?

The ejector can be tuned just like a M1911.

If you can follow ggggiiiilllliiieees writing(?) he explains how to do it.

I used to think brass kisses were cool, now I see them as one of those little final tuning things. A couple of swipes with a file is all it takes.

Hmm, always just took it as normal stuff, you have any pictures or details on what you are describing?
Follow MyTFAL's link in the second post of this thread.

Second on that info...I don't mind the kissing that much but hey if I can get it to go straight out then so much the better. :)

My STG58 does the same thing. Doesn't bother me at all, it helps add character to the rifle.

On the M1 and M14, that's part of the design -- the brass spins in the first stage of ejection and is hit by the operating rod hump, causing it to land in the 1 to 2:00 position.

I did ggiilliiee's (sp?) fix and it works pretty well. Mine now eject at 1 to 2 oclock and apparently stopped battering my scope mount.

The brass was not bothering me, but steel case wolf was beating it up.
