I went to the gunshow in Montgomery AL today, with a pocketful of early Father's Day presents. Instead of gifts, my daughters gave me cash since they knew I was headed to the gunshow.

I don't know if the panic is over, but the prices seemed MUCH MORE Reasonable at this show than at the last few I have been to. Even the AK and ARs were not excessively overpriced.

I went looking for a Ruger SP101 with Crimson Trace.

At the end of the second row of tables, I found a Ruger Security Six. Used, showing some holster wear, but it locked up tight and didn't have much cylinder or barrel wear. And the price was RIGHT. Still, I can't just BUY a used firearm without at least trying to haggle, right. I acted like I thought the price was too high, and the guy came off $75 bucks. I picked it up for $299 tax, title and dealer prep. :)

I continued looking for the SP101. I found some S&W J Frame .38s with the Crimson Trace, all for around $700, but I wanted a .357 with a bit longer barrel. I almost bought a 686 6" barrel for $550....I almost bought a Colt Agent that had $375 on it, but it had been refinished....

I could not find a single SP101 with a crimson trace. I decided I could buy a SP101 and then install my own laser grips. I went around and started seeing which dealer had the best deals. I finally began some serious haggling with a guy I have dealt with before. In the end, I paid a shade over $500 for this...

This might be the best Father's Day I have had in several years. I'll know for sure after a trip to the range. :D

Good job fanatic!

Ya' got two keepers there. I know cuz' I've had a 4" Sec. Six for over 30 years and the 3" SP101 for around 15 years. Neither will leave before I do.

Just put a Crimson Trace on my SP. Got the better one with the longer rubber grips from Optics Planet. They had the best prices. The lower priced CT is shorter, made of hard plastic, and good for carry but doesn't give you a full 3-finger grip...or so I've been told.

I mistakenly filed down the front sight on the SP to get the POA down somewhere near the POI when shooting full power 125 gr. JHPs. It wasn't necessary. A shift to 158 gr. JHPs broght the POI up. Something to remember if you run into it. With the CT, it shouldn't be an issue either way as you have adjustments.

This is the first one I didn't go to on Sat for years. (Baseball) I will probably go tomorrow, as I was told the powder guy was there for a change.

Good finds. Do you live in Montgomery, or did you travel?

I live in LA

Walk: I live in LA....Lower Alabama. About a sixty mile drive for me to get to Montgomery.

Orange: I will check Optics Planet out when I start shopping for the CT. Thanks.

Earl: Thanks. All the SP101s even the shorter barrel ones were "high" I thought. But it came down to a "slightly" used one with the short barrel or the 3" one for AROUND the same price. I wanted the 3" barrel and it wasn't that much high...I guess.

I sure am wondering if I ought to have made an offer on that .38 Colt Agent though.

Nice revolvers there! I too noticed firearm prices being more reasonable this time. I wish I had bought that Remington 552 I saw at the last Convention Center show for something like $125. The cheapest I could find was double that yesterday. The high prices seem confined only to the rifle I want :what: :fire:LOL!

About a sixty mile drive for me
If you are ever going to be here with time to kill, and want to shoot, PM me and we can ride out to the range and shoot a few. AC
