Does anybody have a favorite 7mm Mag load for 162gr Hornady A-Max bullets? I've got a bunch of suitable powders, some bullets on the way, and I'm hoping to save myself some time.

I'll be shooting them out of a new Savage 111 with a 26", 1/9.5 twist barrel. I'm leaning towards the slower end of the burn rate spectrum because the barrel is so long.

Thanks in advance.

As always, be careful with ANY info from the Nternetz. This load Is over suggested maximums, but has proven safe, and case life is good so far (no losses in 5 cycles, with annealing every other firing). Also the over all length is with the bullet backed about .01 off the lands and would NOT have fit into my older savage 110 (MAX COAL was 4.34 do to mag length).

My currant load for my 26" 700sps, is a 162grn amax over 74grns of retumbo, COAL is 3.46.
Velocity is a nudge over 3100, SD and ES is low (cant remember off hand), and accuracy is in the .75 MOA range. I havent tried alot of different powders, but thats so far the best this rifle (or I) can do.

I shoot a Serra 160gr SPBT which is pretty close to the 162gr. I use IMR4350 at or near max load of 61gr. So work up your loads for your gun. My bullet is setting 0.020" of the lands. This produces <3/8" groups at a 100 yrds in my Rem 700 BDL if I do my part. I've been using this load for near 40 yrs now. Have no reason to change since it shoots so good in my gun.
