Looking for some your favorite loads for 270 Winchester. Including bullet weight, type, powder.

Also what range are you loading for and accuracy sought and acquired in those loads. If just 100 yd plinking or 400 yds hunting? Share it please including primer or preferred brass. Thanks!

I've acquired a Winchester model 70 in 270 Winchester. Its a simple factory combo with a 3-9x40 scope void of a brand name. Seems to be a cheap scope but for starters if it holds zero @ 100yds it will do for now.

My favorite for the .270 is a 140 gr. Sierra in front of a charge of IMR 4064.
Your rifle is a Model 70?
There is no better combo !

Yes its a newer model 70 with the polymer stock. Got a deal on it for 275. 20 rounds through it. Looks like brand new.

I

270 Winchester

I have two loads
One with Speer hot cor 150 grains over IMR 4064, Remington case and cci 200 primer.
The other is Speer varmint 100 grains with the same items above.

Gotten very good groups with both bullets without adjusting the scope.:)

Mine loves any 130gr bullet and it only ever gets fed imr4350. It likes most any amount of 4350, but it really really really likes exactly 3/4 of the way between start and max load in my lyman 47 manual. Been a long time since I loaded for it so I don't remember charge weight.

Rem 700
24inch barrel
Norma/nosler brass (trimmed)
Berger 130g VLD hunting
cci LRP
H-4831 Definitely on the high side of the scale gns. ;)
I load for hunting. 400 would be a long shot.
Last I was out I put 4 in the same hole @100.:what: I'm sure it was an accident.

59gr. 7828, 130gr. Sierra GK out of Winchester M70 and T/C Venture. Both 24in. barrels and both sub MOA easily. Same weight of 780 Supreme works about as well. Large rifle magnum primers. These are about 1 gr. below max loads.

Guess I've acquired some RP brass ( once i shoot it) I'm also acquiring some 4064. Think I'm going to start with that combo and use a few different bullets from 130-150 and see what kind of groups I'm getting.

See what happens. Ill update as i get it all together. Meanwhile i have some 130gr psp and some 150gr sp core-lokt factory Remington to get some trigger time on the model 70 and use the brass for the first loads.

Max loads of IMR-4831 have worked better for me than anything else. If I recall correctly, 56 grains with a 130 grain bullet. YMMV

Sierra GK 130s and a stout charge of IMR 4064 shoots very well in my Weatherby. I have taken white tails out to 300 yards with this combo.

Tikka T-3 Lite, Vortex 6.5-20x50 Viper:
54.0 gn IMR4451, CCI-200, RP Case, Berger 130gn VLD Hunting, COL 3.145" = 0.863" at 300 meters avg. for 5 3-round groups.

Same gun also likes 52.0 gn IMR 4831, CCI-200, RP case, 140 gn Berger VLD Hunting, COL 3.200" = 2-3/4" @ 500 meters for 5 round group fired from sandbag rest off a bench.

YMMV, of course. I strongly advise starting with published starting loads and working up to your accuracy load. Nothing will substitute for experimentation and practice. Above all, be safe!
