Oath Keepers: FBI Wants Surplus Stores To Spy on Customers

As many of the items on this "watch list" are firearm related, I believe that this belongs in the Gun Discussion. Many of us use a lot of the items on the "watch list". Click the link to read the entire FBI handout's entire list. As this handout states, "the purchase of popular preparedness items and firearms accessories as “suspicious” and “potential indicators of terrorist activities."

Weatherproofed ammunition or match containers, Meals Ready to Eat, High capacity magazines, Bi-pods or tri-pods for rifles to list just a few of the items.

So they want surplus stores to record ID for people buying waterproof containers, MREs, and bipods?

Yeah, like that is going to fly. :rolleyes:

The report specifically indicates bulk purchase of the items in question, but does not indicate how much could be considered a bulk purchase.

In addition to noting the purchases made, it also asks store owners to observe their customers.

Talk to customers, ask questions, and

listen to and observe their responses.

Watch for people and actions that are out of place.

Make note of suspicious statements, people, and /or vehicles.

If something seems wrong, notify law enforcement authorities.”

They're asking store owners to revive the long-past environment of the small town where people go to the sheriff if they notice one of their own going off the rails.

"The handout also instructs surplus store owners to consider as “suspicious” anyone who “demands identity ‘privacy’” or anyone who expresses “extreme religious statements” and those who “make suspicious comments regarding anti-US, [or] radical theology.”"

This report absolutely will not fly with those people.

In some ways, this report is irresponsible because of the aggrandizing effect this will have for those who are vocal in their invention of a victimization narrative.
 
Oh, crud. I probably have hidden cameras in my bathrooms. The plus side to this is I'm sure any agents spying on me will go completely blind after immense immense pain and followed with complete insanity after seeing me naked.

It is a shame our government does not trust us anymore....but even more of a shame when there are many who do not trust the government.

With that logic...

Is it also a shame we don't trust our government anymore? The real shame is that we've become an "us vs. them" society much like the rest of the world. Yes, I have my lead foil hat and am wearing it as I type this post. I hope I'm not poisoned by my own hat.

As a matter of fact they did :uhoh: and they then proceeded to write it down in a logbook along with the 30 cases of MREs. As for the lead I have lead filled walls so Im good there the tinfoil is just a precaution. To keep on topic it's not to saddening that the people no longer trust the government.
 
The founding fathers didn't trust the federal government, part of the reason why they originally set us up with the Articles of Confederation. After that didn't work so well they seemed to decide the feds were a necessary evil and so proposed the current system. The Amendments to the Constitution show that they still didn't trust the feds too much though. Particularly these two:

The enumeration in the Constitution of certain rights shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.

I don't get all this though. Sure the media loves to write breathless hyperbole about 'the militia threat' from time to time since it sells, but when was the last time a militia group actually attacked anything? The last case I recall was the arrest of the Hutaree, but then that story kinda quietly went away in the media, probably because the only thing I could find about them on Google a month ago said that the government's case had rested on one informant of unknown honesty.
