Federal Court Upholds Calif. Gun Show Ban

SAN FRANCISCO -- A federal appeals court panel Tuesday upheld a local California ordinance banning gun bazaars on public fairgrounds, a decision expected to lead to similar bans statewide.

In dismissing a challenge to the Alameda County ordinance, the three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that gun enthusiasts did not have a constitutional right to possess weapons for sale on public property.

The decision follows a state Supreme Court ruling in April that allowed cities and counties to prohibit gun shows on their property.

Los Angeles, Alameda and other California counties banned gun bazaars on public fairgrounds amid concerns such shows promote violence. Several other California counties are expected to enact similar ordinances if the panel's ruling survives appeal.

Alameda banned weapons on public property following a shooting at the fairgrounds in Pleasanton, just east of San Francisco, in 1998. Trade show operator TS Trade Shows then sued the county, demanding it overturn the ban.

9th circuit No Surprise.

Guns shows on private property only in the PRC

Gun owners are not citizens entitled to equal protection, OR

Gun ownership is like a religion not on public property.

There is an idea a religion based on the ownership of guns!!!

Any gun laws run afoul of the first amendment.
