I notice the Federal Hi Shok prices in Walmart are way lower compared to WInchester Super Xs (rifle ammo). It s like $4 difference per box. How come ? ARe they known to be inconsistent or what ? Inferior components ?
Just the opposite. I consider the Federal better. Of course it depends on what your rifle likes but the Federals usually use a Speer hot-cor or Grand slam bullet. The consistency is usually a bit better with Federal in my guns.
One reason for the price difference may be that Speer has discontinued the hot-core and Federal may be trying to move them. I'd see what shoots in your gun but the Fed bullet will kill just as well as the Superx IME.
The Winchester groups slightly better in my guns, but they are both good. Both do way better than Remington. Usually I find the Winchester is about $1 more than the Federal.
