What is Federal HST ammo? Was in local GS today, guy behind counter said he heard that Federal might be discontinuing Hydra-shok rounds, have a look at these new rounds -- said "HST on the box" -- didn't have a price and didn't know what HST stood for.

???

Well

I googled and all I came up with is this: HST vs SXT

I haven't gone to the Federal website to see what "HST" actually stands for. It may well be that it's simply a series of letters strung together that sound cool when repeated.

As I mentally page through today's marketing "buzzwords" (so necessary to sell stuff nowadays, along with string bikinis) I think "HST" is short for "Hyper Sonic Terminators." Or perhaps "Harmonically Stable Thumpers?" Or "Horrendous Stinging Trauma?" "Handgun Sent Trauma?"

I dunno. :)

I believe HST = Federal Hi-Shok 2 (Two)

NOT Hydra-Shok

Heres the advertising:

HST bullets feature a hollow point cavity precisely engineered for each caliber and load. A pre-formed core allows large bullet expansion even through the toughest barriers. Its scored jacket allows for a controlled upset with 100% weight retention. The tapered jacket wall initiates easy opening yet stops expansion at twice the bullet diameter. The bullet also features a radiused nose for reliable feeding.

Site down?

Seems like that site is down (from here anyway). I couldn't find a thing on Federal's site, but I saw the box today with my own eyes.

45crittergitter, where'd you find that?

HST is the name of Federal's new hollow point design.
You'll only find it listed in their Law Enforcement catalogue for now.

It is designed to be better at penetrating barriers without clogging.
When expanded it looks a lot like an expanded Gold Dot without the dot.

The current loadings are,

9mm 124gr @ 1120fps
9mm 147gr @ 1000fps
40 S&W 155 @ 1160fps
40 S&W 165 @ 1135fps
40 S&W 180 @ 1025fps
45ACP+P 230 @ 960fps

Federal is NOT, repeat NOT discontinuing the Hydra-Shok.
