Federal Hydrashock versus Speer Gold Dot 124g JHP's

A convo with an LGS employee who presented himself as a Delhi Ohio police officer indicated that local area PD use Speer Gold Dot ammo.
Using the doctrine that it's best to use the PD load for self-defense, I would be inclined to buy Gold Dots.
But I like Winchester Ranger Ts too much! And Federal HST too.. and even Federal Hi-Shock.
Hornady Critical Duty :barf:

A gun store just a few miles from me carried HST in 50 round boxes up to a full case. Not too long ago a 50 round box of HST in 147gr 9mm only cost about $47 out the door so I jumped all over that. They either moved or closed so now I have to find a new supplier.
"Only cost about $47"?

That's a pretty steep price. When available, they go for around $25/box of 50 around here.

Hornady CD....

What's wrong with Critical Duty?
I purchased a 50 round box of .45acp Hornady Critical Duty in 2014, www.policeHQ.com . It's fine.
The cases are nickel, it was engineered to do well in the FBI protocol tests(videos are online), it feeds and cycles with zero problems.
Critical Duty is available in many retail places, online sources too.
It's not $8.00 per round either, :D .
I would agree that other brands might have better specs or balliatics but in reality that's only 100/150 feet per second or 50/60 ft/lbs(KE level).
I currently use Ranger T/T Series & Speer Gold Dot(9x19mm) in my firearms. I have no problems with them but it was a major hassle  obtaining them.

HST is $27.00/50 rounds here - http://www.policehq.com/Products/FC-9HST

I've ordered on backorder from Streicher's and had my order delivered in 2-3 weeks.

Interesting to see how the shooting thru sim-bone plate changes things.

The sim bone is purported, in the video, as being similar to human sternum. However I'm unaware of any reports of actual shootings in which a bullet perforated the sternum and exhibited terminal performance as depicted in the video.

Well I thought I was getting a good deal. This was mid banic so I was probably just happy to see hollow point ammo. Maybe too happy.

your links are all bad pretty much
try something in stock!

SG has Fed 9BPLE (+P+ hollow point load) for $16.50ish / 50, which is not far from retail store brass range ammo prices.

In .40 SG has a smoooking deal on Winchester PDX1 bonded bullets in a plain white box, I think about $19ish for 50, for some of THE BEST SD ammo. You can practice with that ammo at that price.

However I'm unaware of any reports of actual shootings in which a bullet perforated the sternum and exhibited terminal performance as depicted in the video

No reports of shots thru the sternum, or no reports of good/bad bullet performance on shots thru the sternum?

I think the point attempting to be made is that actual performance in real life with bones, heavy clothing etc. in the bullet path may change the performance of the bullet as opposed to just shooting gel. I would guess the SIM Bone represents worst case performance.

I would wager that any quality hollow point from the major ammo makers/bullet companies would do the job given proper shot placement.

A couple of choices in stock here

Interesting bullet. Do the arms engage the groves? Two hollow points where the eyes are, filled with some white substance? Built in guidance system?
