How many here, especially us in the CCW crowd, feel naked and bent out shape when that familiar weight of a firearm isn't felt due to having to leave it behind for ANY reason at all?

For me it is most disturbing to abandon my gun while I go to get my children from school. This big insecurity is caused by the fact that I live(d) in two states that are famous for school killings ala Columbine and Jonesboro. I have that blue card as proof from the FBI that I'm a good guy but the state couldn't care less.Arrrgh. If the SHTF at best I am a human shield for my kids. What a load of S@#$.

thanks for your time.

When I don't have a pistol on board I feel like I did when I couldn't afford to renew the house insurance.

A tornado hit the house.:(

A tornado hit the house.
Are you serious? Wow man, that's some hard luck.

Since my CCW has been delayed in the Juvenile Backgrounds Department (according to the Sheriff's office) I can't contribute to that feeling, other than I have a very similar feeling when I'm missing my wallet, cell phone, watch, or S&W folder.

I agree that concealed means concealed, especially if you're not leaving the car.

The Old Fuff doesn’t get as nervous as some, or get withdrawal symptoms if he’s separated from his hardware for a short time.

But I will suggest that worried parents who pick up their kids at school….

Consider carrying in the car (not the person) and park on the street off of the school grounds. The kids can be briefed as to where their pick-up will be waiting. This system may not be foolproof, but it’s better then getting butterflies in the tummy.

Definitely a feeling of unease especially after carrying a concealed weapon for a number of years. Here in Ky, police stations, court houses, government buildings and schools are places you cannot carry. I spent too much time and money to take a chance on losing my permit by carrying there and try to keep my visits short as possible. Other places such as banks, businesses etc., I ignore the no guns signs. No one ever knows if it's concealed properly and even if noticed by some remote chance they can only ask you to leave.

I ALWAYS carry, except if I have to go to the kids schools. Last week one night, had to do just that with my 16 year old. After the school meeting which ended after dark, we had to stop at the grocery store. I told my son, "I feel so vulnerable". He knew exactly what I meant. I HATE that feeling!:(

concealed means concealed....

Well, while I certainly agree with that mindset and I do ignore the 'no guns' sign at public places of buisness as long as they refuse to protect me, I am firmly aware that my carrying or lack thereof may be brought to point by a nosey school faculty member some time in the future due to the fact I make my feelings on "the system" and its lack of constitutionality known to every adult who listens. My children are also very pro 2A and do not hide it. At some point someone may ask if I carry and it could get ugly, so the gun does not enter the building as I am pushing my luck leaving it in the car. The way I see it, I will tolerate in the in building policy as long as they realize that as soon as I am on the public streets I am liable for my children and myself and that's just the way it is.

It can be tough trying to be on the right side of the law, it's even tougher being on the right side of the law.

I feel VERY vulnerable. I try not to go anywhere without it, but I can only carry in 34 or 35 states and I go to all 50. There is nothing that can comfort me in a strange city like the feel of my piece on my hip.

I do. Espically since I started carrying at age 18 (ie BC----Before Clinton) and before any permit was needed. Yes back in the old time of the 1980's. SIGH.

Dead Hands,

Maybe you might want to stop doing that, then. It's tough to be discreet when you draw attention to yourself, isn't it?

low key

Mr. Bullfrog, when I say that I give my views of the state of things it is to folks that I am engaged in conversation with for more than just casual blabbing. I do not start talking with words like, "Hi, I am really pissed about the state of affairs surrounding the 2A!". So, I am somewhat discreet to a point.

Re:Feeling Like A Sitting Duck

I don't have kids to know this feeling, but there are other places that I can't carry my piece like to any of the Carillion hospitals, or clinics. I feel nervous when I'm out without my firearm, especially if I'm alone. With all the influx of illegals, the constant threat of terrorism looming, and just your average idiot criminal--I don't like being without something to protect myself. Our area is starting to see some gang activity. I know for a fact that Staunton is now Bloods and Cripps land. So when I'm going to Staunton, unless I have to stop at BAM at the mall, I do pack. What, will these people guarantee my safety to and from some of these anti-places?

More states need to adopt the stance that Utah has regarding CCW and schools. If I remember correctly, Utah is the only state that currently allows concealed carry in schools and on school property.

And guess what? We're still waiting for all of that blood that was supposed to run in the streets.

As a matter of fact, after the Amish school shooting, a group of 30-or-so teachers were shown on the news taking their CCW class. I can tell you that the Trolley Square shooting has convinced a lot of our customers to start carrying all the time instead of just when the magic 8-ball tells them they need to.

For the main point of the topic, yes, I do tend to feel naked when I'm not carrying. Not a real comfortable feeling.
