alright, here's my super noob question, but the press i bought (Lee) didn't come with instructions on how to attach the case seat onto the press. here's a pic of what it should look like.

the part i'm talking about is the seat that the case is sitting in. how do i attach taht to my press? the picture doesn't help me out too much, and neither does the lack of instructions it came with. thanks
 
n00b questions aren't dumb.

dumb is when you stay up late making match ammo, and after meticulously weighing powder charges for a lot of rnds, you begin seating bullets....

only to find that you neglected to put any primers in the cases and your expensive powder is spilling everywhere

Are you talking about the shell holder? Kind of like this one?

It should just "snap" into the shell holder holder on the top of the ram.
 
Fat46 shows a shellholder for the Lee hand priming tool. If you have one EXACTLY like that, it is the wrong part and will not fit the press.

The press shell holder has a flange that snaps into the groove in the press ram.
 
It sometimes takes a little tap from a screwdriver handle or something similar to get it to "click" in.

Did the shell holder come with your die set, or was it ordered separately?
 
Lee die sets come with the correct shell holder for that cartridge. Other brands of dies require you to purchase a shell holder separately.
 
I think lee dies comes with a shell holder but the rest of them you have to buy it seperate. Any brand will work with any dies. You do not have to stay brand specific.
 
The only dumb question is one not asked. The nice thing about THR is that most of us have been there-done that. I thnk the only Lee dies that don't come with the shell-holder are the RGB rifle dies. Even the 3-die pistol sets come with a shell holder.
 
In case we didn't make it clear, 99% of shell holders meant for reloading press rams fit 99% of reloading presses, regardless of brand. It's kind of a universal standard.
 
i knew that most were universal. i bought a lee reloading kit, so it came with just about everything. the shell holder, however, i cannot seem to make fit onto the ram. i'm usually pretty good at problem solving. this however, i have no clue on how to make fit, or how its supposed to fit. i think the shell holders that came with the kit are just for the auto prime that came with it. when i go and pick up my lee dies today, i'm sure that'll have a shell holder that fits onto the ram.
 
At the top of the ram there is a cut out on the side, the shell holder slides in from the side and the clip holds it in place. The rim on the shell holder goes under the clip.
