I had in my mind to buy my daughter a cz83, in .380. The gun shop fellow said that the felt recoil would not be much dif. from my cz 75b, because of the dif. in design and mass of the pistol.. So I bought a Kadet conversion kit he had. That's fine, all's good, but I'd like those of you with time on both these pistols to weigh in.

Thanks, I appreciate your input.

I have a CZ 83 and CZ 75 compact. Both shoot well but I would have to say the CZ 83 has less recoil. I can come back on target much quicker with my CZ 83.

Purely mathematically, the CZ-75 with 124 gr ammo has a recoil velocity of about 10.4 fps, and a recoil acceleration (snappiness) of about 418 Gs. CZ-83 would have a recoil of about 8.0 fps and 454 Gs. So the CZ-83 will be a tiny bit snappier, but have less muzzle rise. But anything under 500 Gs is fairly soft-shooting. I'd say that about 700 Gs is the point at which recoil becomes a bit snappy.

Blow-back systems do tend to generate quite a bit of felt recoil impulse, but due to the broader grip of the double stack magazine it's not a sharp as a narrower single stack grip frame... to my way of thinking. Coupled with the all-steel construction, (27 oz for the 83, 34 oz for the 75) both are pussycats in the recoil dept w/ the 83 being kind of large for the caliber (just my opinion here)

I own both and my daughter (who has smallish hands) can and does shoot both... tho the longer trigger reach in DA of the CZ-75b affects her reach/grip (so she shoots it SA like she oughta).

Personally, I think your gunshop salesman is right in that there is not that much difference in felt recoil between the two due to weight, size, etc. Both are fun to shoot by male & female alike. Hand size being the key question.

I could be wrong. I'd say it depends on your daughter's hand size, but if I were you, I'd pick one up anyway to join your Kadet. Not knowing how old your daughter is (assuming she's 21 like mine... probably erroneous on my part) have her hold it. If she can handle gripping your 75, she can more than likely handle the 83.

I do know that 9mm is cheaper to buy than .380 for some odd reason ;)
