Hello. I continue my hunt for good field holsters for my handguns. Something rugged, with good retention, that'd be suitable for hiking, hunting, or attached to military load bearing gear.

Does anybody here have experience with Blade-Tech's duty and "tactical" holsters?

I'm still hunting for a good service holster for my 625. I have an open top leather concealment rig from Kramer, but it's not the kind of thing you'd want for duty use, or for wear in the field. (Actually, I'm not crazy about them period, but I decided to try them, investing in open top holsters for my 625 (Kramer) and my Gov't Model (High Noon). I haven't gotten to try them much, but the draw is really fast.)

These Blade Tech holsters have what I'm looking for. They're tough, are available for revolvers (even a 5" N-Frame), can be had left-handed, and don't cost two hundred dollars a pop. Anybody used them yet?

I have 2 Blade-Techs and they're great. They are very durable. The only thing I might want in a field/work holster would maybe be a retention strap of some sort or at least affix a lanyard to your pistol. I have a beater 1911 with a lanyard loop on it for just this purpose.

I don't have any of the Blade Tech holsters that you mention, but I do have a couple of other models from them. All are really nicely made and work great. Quality is consistently very good and the price is quite fair at full retail. If Blade Tech makes it I would not hesitate to buy one after the last 4 I have bought.

Retention

The Blade-Tech models I mentioned do have a thumb-break.

What I really want is a Safariland holster with the push-forward hood for my 625. I know we'll be ice-skating in Hell before Safariland makes a tac holster for a sixgun, but a boy can dream.

(I had a Safariland drop holster that I was issued in Qatar. Once I got used to it I became rather fond of it, though it was a bit too bulky.)

I'm also considering asking Tactical Tailor if they can make me one of their excellent holsters, custom. I had one of those as well and they're top-notch.
