Last year I bought the undermentioned binoculars for field surveillance during army reservist duty. (Issue binos are utter crap! 
1) Steiner 8 x 56 Nighthunter
2) Russian Navy 10 x 42 Binos (with range reticles) - manufacturer unknown
The Russian stuff will be my primary piece (to be used and abused) while the pricey steiner will be kept at home and only brought out when the russian piece meets it's maker.
Is anyone familiar with my two binos? Any comments on their quality or performance that I should look out for? What about night time performance?
