Its no secret that to this point, the tone and direction of the recently resurrected discussion on gun rights/control has been dominated by the anti-gun crowd. The obvious problem with this is that even though their assertions and ideas are not supported by logic or history, they are getting repeated over and over again, and oft repeated lies tend to become "truth".

Even though the NRA is going to start their counter arguments on Friday, I think we, the gun owners, should start trying to counter some of the misinformation floating around out there with real hard facts. This website:

http://www.gunfacts.info/pdfs/gun-facts/6.1/gun_facts_6_1_screen.pdf

Does a pretty good job of using real statistics to debunk all the traditional arguments and assumptions put forward by the gun control crowd. Even most of my gun owning friends have never seen the real violent crime and murder numbers for the US and other often cited countries.

If 1000 people were to share this link on their facebook/twitter/other social media, how many people who have never seen the real facts could be exposed? Who knows, but if you ask me its a far better use of time than arguing about what rights we would be willing to give up to appease the Anti's. Social Media has been leveraged very effectively to drive other causes, maybe it can be used to help protect our rights as well.

Thoughts?

the problem is, they dont want to hear actual facts.....they want the 'facts' that back up their beliefs.

hell, my own father( not a traditionally anti-gun guy) tried to tell me anyone can walk into a gun shop and buy a gun without a background check and without paperwork....and even after i told him this was not the case he thought i was lying because "thats not what the news said"

people seem to think that just because its on TV that all of a sudden it must be true, and if you try to correct them, they write you off as being a 'gun nut'.

Agree they do not want to hear facts unless the facts back up their standpoint. Right now, they are being driven by emotion and faulty logic. Its hard to win an argument with real facts when thats what you're up against.

I wasn't suggesting we should argue with the anti's, I was suggesting that we get the real facts out there so the undecided population can at least have the opportunity to see the truth. There are people out there that are receptive to facts but as of yet haven't been exposed. We can't give up on trying to spread the truth just because a loud minority doesn't want to hear it. How could sharing the link do anything but help?
