What ever happened to all those Fighters I sold on the group buy at THR? I'd like to know what guys have done with them or if they just collect them. I'm fine either way, believe me!

More importantly, what about Fighters? Before I made them I considered them ridiculous and felt the same way about Bowies. I mean, who gets in a knife fight anyway AND happens to have a Fighter available when they do? So one day I sat down and designed a Bowie Fighter and it became my best seller by far. The group buy we had sold more knives than I'd ever made at once!

So talk about Fighters, what makes a Fighter and who uses them. I was very happy when soldiers bought them as I had them in mind when I drew it up. There seems to be a ton of Fighter designs, and that may be because as knifemakers we don't like to be influenced by others when drawing up a knife. I know that was the case for me.

I made a lot of big fighters through the years.

Some even with spiked knuckle guards and such!

No accounting for taste.
Or common sense.

But they sold better, faster, for more money, then anything else I could cobble together.

I doubt to this day any of them ever got used for anything more serious then telling Vietnam war stories to the grand kids!

A real grunt would know they are too big too carry on top of everything else they have to carry.
And too long to use for what a solder really might use a knife for every day.

Be real interesting to see what feedback you get on yours.

Mine wasn't part of that group buy, but it does get carried on hikes and woods adventures.

Yea I had some soldiers buy them but never got any word if they got used for anything. I'd be real interested in know if they got used in day to day life or left in a bag somewhere.

I'd like to see what people here have in the way of Fighters too, all kinds!

If someone in the army bought them I guarantee they have it attached to their kit on display. Either that or its tucked behind their belt, that's what I would and have done. If they deployed, it will be seen by hundreds of people no doubt and it'll give you advertisement.

Well, to be clear I am not selling knives and do not make them anymore. I had a table saw accident that ended my knifemaking several years ago. I just want feedback on Fighters in general.

Here's the one I finished on your blade:

After much time passed, I decided to make my own large fighter type:

I've carried yours a lot more, though!

My bed side rig. When I have to strap up and walk around the ranchette it goes with me. The CPM154 has really held up well to digging around pipes and in barns ect. alongwith poking at dead things and other corrosive work. I keep it razor sharp with a Work Sharp. Thanks for your good work sir it is my life long companion! :D

Here is a picture a couple years back when I first got Sam 1911 made Camp defender. I like both these knives very much . The Camp Defender goes with me when I am on an excursion, your Fighter guards my home front !
To be honest my bigger Mad Dog , Fowler , Randall , Bauchop and other customs are the safe queens FWIW. My thinking originally was I could live thru a loss of your and Sam's knife, but I am exceedingly happy with the performance of both those $250 knives. Thanx again :)

Table saw accident? doesnt sound good. I wouldn't inquire if you didn't mention it but hope you are ok. Would you mind elaborating if no other reason but remind us how dangerous tools are and need to be be respected. And of course I understand if you would rather not.

I have a Fighter and a Super Camp. I'm not ashamed to admit that the Fighter is strictly a display knife. I don't want to mess up Sam's amazing mirror polish. The Super Camp on the other hand goes with me whenever I'm outdoors. I have it in an upside-down sheath on the shoulder strap of my Remora.

Here's "Nightmare":

Valkman, I actually called the day you had to go see a doc for your injury. Happened to be in Las Vegas for something and asked if I could come out and see what you had ready. You were heading out about the time I called. If memory serves I had around a grand I wanted to spend. One of your fighters was going to be bound for my nephew in the Marines, and the rest would have been various stuff, whatever was ready I suppose, in the way of bird and trouts, a couple of those really short blade ones you used to make and maybe a super camp or something. I was bummed You got out of the business, you made some pretty impressive stuff.

I'd say that a 3" folder is 100x more likely to be actually deployed (not drawing blood, just scaring someone off, or getting shot for being in a gunfight with it) :)

Luckily I am OK, didn't lose anything. I opened up my left index finger and thumb pretty good but the ER doc sewed them up and did a fine job.

SuperNaut, that is a fine looking bade and I probably wouldn't use it either. I didn't do many nightmare grinds!

alias, it's too bad we couldn't meet just so I could meet another THR member.
