He plays a cop on Law and Order: SVU.

For those who are at work (like me) and are too busy to watch the video or can't load it (unlike me), he basically said "I'd be okay with laying down my guns, if everyone else - including the cops - got rid of theirs. But I'm not gonna have someone come in with an M-16 and say 'quick, grab a spoon so we can defend ourselves.'"

Basically his position is that as long as anyone else can potentially have a gun, no matter why they have one, he wants one. Because if a gun can be utilized against him, he wants to meet force with force.
 
The problem with everyone's giving up their guns (not that it will ever happen) is disparity of force or numbers. If you are physically weak or outnumbered, you are helpless without a weapon and a gun is the most effective one.

This is very true. It's why someone on here has the sig "Gun Control: the belief that a 110 lb. woman has the *right* to fistfight with a 210 lb. rapist."
