I hadn't been to the range, or fired a shot, since November 11, 2005.
That's a long stretch without ballistic activity!
The winter and some health issues contributed to my lack of trigger time.
The health stuff turned out to be a false alarm, thankfully.
The winter has backed off a bit, and I got to the local indoor range tonight.
I brought my BHP Practical but didn't get to shoot it.
Instead, all my time was taken up with trying various Cor-Bon .357 loads in a Smith M28 four inch, an M66 2.5 inch, and an "Old Model" Ruger Blackhawk with a 6.5 inch barrel.
The M66 threw a lot of flame with the lighter bullet JHPs. The M28 was better mannered. The Ruger made most of the loads seem a lot less flashy on the indoor range. I was surprised to find that the best group of the night came with 125 grain JHPs from the Blackhawk. I've usually loaded 158 grain LSWCs, or 158 grain jacketed HPs. Both shot well. The 125 grain Cor-Bon shot just as well as my reloads and I didn't expect that.
It felt good to knock some of the rust off. I could feel it getting thicker and thicker the longer I went without shooting.
Compared to the outdoor ranges the indoor one was crowded. I didn't get to do everything I wanted because there were several people waiting for a lane. Outside, my son and I are usually the only ones shooting.
