I haven't tried that. Sounds like it'd take a fair amount of pressure to round the nose of the 405gr bullets. Interesting idea though. I have some bullet forming dies from a blackpowder ammunition project I consulted on. I might have .45 caliber know that I think about it. I have a big Dake press too so could possibly use that to form the bullets. Have you done this? Can you post pictures?

don't have any pictures at the moment, I've used my Lee hand press one time it didn't take much to round the tip. You just have to experiment with different dies and see what works, even some seaters can work depends on how the ream the die body out. You can make a nice round trip bullet and still have a little flat point. I've used a 223 case stuck in the ram to push bullets up, you may need something to poke them out of the die.

I pulled a few 458s don't have any loose bullets at the moment, the hp is a 325gr and the flat point is a 405 think there both Remington. Here I used the round nose seater from my rcbs 45-70 die, used the punch from a Lee sizer, had to use a spacer to. More messing around and they would be better but I had nothing to go off you may need a different shape to feed in your mags.

I tried one in a 7x57ai fl die and it worked but could only get the sides of the tip beveled a little before it was pushing the center out, but you may only need a little to get them feeding.

Cool ... and something I hadn't considered. I'll look into this. Thanks.

Did you ever try feeding those 2.340" COAL rounds from the magazine? So far it's looking like the .458gr JSP bullets aren't going to work, even at 2.260". Not a big deal since I bought them years ago for my .45-70 Govt. and can use them in the AR if I want.

Mine did feed from the magazine if I remember correctly. It was almost a year ago now. I would not have used them at that OAL though because there was very little of the Hornady 245 gr bullet in the case. Maybe 1/4”.

I would have wanted a heavier bullet so more of the bullet could be inside the case and for general hunting use I also wanted the heavier bullet. I don’t know if a different bullet would have caused feeding issues at that OAL. Based on your findings, it would seem so.

Those bullets were what I had so that is what I experimented with.
