In another thread about small purchases getting inthe way of what you really want I mentioned a Howa Legacy chambered in .308 Win. I have been lusting after this wee beastie since I started work at the sporting goods store.

It has an ergonomic composite stock that fit me to a "T" and I opened my big mouth saying that it would be mine..... and it is now (thanks to new plastic credit:rolleyes: ). Oh well, I put a new Millett Buck Gold 3.5 X 10 X 50 on it (at $65 my price how could it go wrong).

I took it to one of my fav gunsmiths and he tweeked the trigger ( a bit of creep & travel was taken out) to 2.5- 3 lbs. Off to the range and initial sight in at the 25 yard then to the 100 yard range.

The first shot at one hundred yards hit one inch high into the nine ring:what: and it settled into a 5 shot 1 1/2" group  . A little more tweeking and the last group of the day was a warm barrel 3 shot that measured 3/4". It shoots better than I can hold it.

No pics of the targets (deer hunter sight-in day at the range, long wait to change targets by staff only), but here is a pic of the rifle.

What picture? Oh and pray tell how much you got it for, I've been wanting one of these, but can't find them anywhere in town.

let me know how that millet holds up. I purchused two of them about a year and a half ago. They both went sour on me.

mine was a 4x16 by 56. It was mounted to a ruger allweather 25-06. It shot good for a couple of months then. The first thing i saw was a piece a flack inside the scope. you could see it on the inside of the lens. then it would not hold zero. I checked the rings and they were tight. bases were to. my grouping went from a 1moa to a 4 to5 moa. I mounted a burris i had on hand and shot that. 1moa as before. A friend had my other millet 6x24 by 56 mill dot on a remington vls 22-250. same thing happened would not hold a zero. So i shipped them back and they are sending me two new ones.

Your experience with your Howa mirrors mine in .270. The only reason I don't have it now is that a Creighton Audette Sako stumbled my way....Essex

Ruger M77 MKll

I have recently bought a M77 in .300 win. mag. used for around $450. And to say the least i am dissapointed about the accuracy of the rifle at 50yds. I got a horriable group of 2 to 2.5 moa and (i am a very experinced shooter) witch for the hard earned money that is totaly unacceptable. I could have got a Tikka T3 for 499.00 but I got the rifle mainly because of the ruger quality.I have free floated the barrel but not bedded it because the action was very tight in the stock , and I hope the accuracy get better. They are good quality and reliable the trigger could be lighter but accuracy is not 500yds accuracy or for that matter 200yds. Is there anything else that i can do. I have ran out of ideas.
