Picked up a brand new never fired Mossberg 500 12 gauge combo (28", 18.5") shotgun a couple weeks ago from a gentleman who's wife was "annoyed" with his purchasing habits. :D

Local forum had a "Shotgun Shootout" day today and I put 125 shells down range in about 2.5 hours. My shoulder is going to be so sore tomorrow. Anyway, I love this thing. Right out of the box I was knocking down clays. Even for a southpaw like me it just points so naturally. I was worried that the simple 2-dimple sights would be hard to use but once you get them set it just seems to work.

You do not use your sights when shooting clays - just focus on the bird and let your eyes and hands do what they need to do naturally - remember, shooting a shotgun at clays or birds is NOT the same as using a rifle and the methods are completely different. Rifles are aimed, shotguns are pointed. Keep both eyes open and on the target, know where your hold, insertion and break points are, and go have fun busting clays

Change out that OEM recoil pad for something softer and rounder edged. Your shoulder will thank you. My fave is LimbSaver.

Another shooter there had a Pachmayr Decelerator slip on pad he suggested I try. it definitely helped the recoil and it also extended the length of pull which I needed. I apparently have long limbs. who knew.
