Hello fellow THR's,
A gun store near me just received an old sporter in for consignment. It's a 1916 Amberg Mauser Gewehr 98, and it's all matching. It has about 30% of its finish left. Sadly, the stock was cut down about 8 inches, and the front handguard, front barrel band and bayonet lug are gone. The rifle is very attractively priced and would appear to me to be a good candidate for restoration. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a source for Gew98 stocks. Anybody know of anybody sitting on a big pile of good-condition Gew98 stocks, handguards and bayonet lugs?:)

Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not certain, but, check Numrich Arms, or Springfield Sporters.
Midway USA carried some stocks a while back, if I'm not mistaken.

IHTH.

You can find them on ebay now and then,

Numrich ( www.e-gunparts.com) usually has them.

You can try www.gunbroker.com I wouldn't be surprised to find some on there.

Numrich sells the complete stock and handgaurd sets but don't forget you will also need all the bands and band springs that hold the stock together, all that can be purchased from Numrich. They also provide schematics so you can identify what parts you need. When I convert sporters back to original military configuration I often have to order parts from several locations, but in most cases I can find all that I need on Numrich.

Good Luck:)

Thanks Gents!
Seems that none of these sources is hoarding a pile of Gew98 stocks, so I'll prolly hold off on this project for now.

Thanks,
vanfunk
