hey guys,
this is my first go round on finishing wood. in this case i had a old set of kimber laminated grips that were checkered. i decided to file and sand them smooth

i made it this far and i dont know what to use, the process, or how to finish them.
any info would be nice thanks guys

A number of options are available, but I've had good luck with 1st an oil base polyurethane 'stain' in the color you like; then an oil base polyurethane in whichever finish you want---satin, semi-gloss, gloss, matte, etc.

A traditional oil finish like Watco or Tung Oil can also do a nice job.

Color will depend on the wood you are staining/oiling. The only place you could 'test for color' is on the inside of the grip.

thanks i think im going to go with tung oil. it seems to have the least discoloration. i realy like the grey laminate grips and dont want to change the color just yet. who know maybe one day ill go ebony with them

They look nice. Do the grip screws stick up over the grips now though?
