Firearm lubrication?

Has anyone ever thought to use graphite powder to lube their guns? Does anyone ever use graphite powder to lubricate their firearms on a regular basis? The reason I am asking is because where I live my guns tend to get gritty when using them to hunt. Worried about the abrasiveness.

If you are around sand , oils will attract the sand and sand+oil = lapping compound ! Dry lubes are better though sand will still abrade the gun .I tried graphite on a carry gun but gave up because it leaves dark stains on your clothing.There are other dry lubes such as molybdenum disulphide. When Mt St Helens first blew it's top ,those in the area who used oil for their guns found out have fast volcanic ash [pumice] could wear out a gun !!

Graphite powder is - essentially - a great dry lube. Problem I have is persistance. I honestly do not see it persisting to extent it should.

I have experimented with it many times over many years and - it just don't last - IMO. I cannot find anything better than a thicker grease (RIG, Superlube) .. and others. These if holding small amounts of moly or teflon - then pretty much have the top rating for me.

If abrasiveness is a problem then also - I think only answer is more frequent field strips and re-lube. Safer that way really.
