Fired my first reloads... still got all ten digits!

Yesterday I got the chance (read "time") to take my first reloads to the range. I found my RIA 1911A1 greatly enjoys 230gr Rainier plated HPs over 5.4 grains of Winchester 231 (once fired Win brass and WLP).

Though I haven't had the chance to chrono these yet, the felt recoil seemed on-par with the 230gr S&B FMJs I brought along.

I was most pleased with the discovery that my reloads were just as accurate as the S&B fodder, a manufacturer in which I hold in high esteem.

I also slapped together some 200gr LSWC over 4.5 grains of 231 and found them quite mild. Though I brought along only two magazines worth (14 rounds), I didn't have a single failure with these though I strongly suspected they'd hang up. Only drawback was the smoke involved from the lube.

I'm looking forward to the next trip to the range!

Well...Now you have gone and done it...:banghead: You're now part of a "hooked on reloading" group of people that used to be sane and now are adicted to a hobby that has no cure. Some have successfully quite only to return to it in later years. There is no wonder drug to cure you and no halfway house to taper off slowly...ENJOY...

Ah, sweetness, isn't it? i will be departing for the range with some 9mm and 7.62x39mm reloads in an hour or so...I know, common cheap calibers, but during the Great Commie Ammo Shortage, I still had some....

I've loaded 1,000 rounds now. That first time was a bit scary - I shot the first clip with my right hand (I'm left handed) just in case.

Now I'm hooked. 1,000 rounds in THREE WEEKS. I haven't shot my Ruger MKIII since I got my reloading press.

I lost only one case last time I went shooting - that's my best performance yet.

A (now best) friend gave me 10.5 lbs of 9mm brass today - actually that's probably about what I've given him in the last year before I decided to start reloading.

I find myself itching to get to the basement to resize more brass, It's addictive.

I wish I had an answer to your question. I would LIKE to say, as Scott5mentions, that it's to keep the range clean or show a good example to the kids.

But you are correct. I can't leave until I find all the brass I came with. Guess I should stick to revolvers from now on.

I'm going to pick up a lb. of 231 today and try it. Everyone gives good reviews
on it.
