Yes they allow it... If they don't, you picked the wrong FFL to send your gun to. I've haven't heard an FFL not allowing someone to check their own gun before transfer.
Had a weird thing happen with an ffl transfer once. Of course we check the serial number on the incoming gun against the paperwork. Well, I've been trained to clear any gun I pick up like anyone who doesn't want a sudden tragedy to interrupt their day. I found something wrong with his gun and brought it to his attention when he arrived. Customer went nuts that I'd touched his gun before he did. Takes all kinds.

Guess I'm the only one who takes their gun out the box, and straight to the range? Dozens of pistols and rifles over the years and not one issue yet except with a Ruger that needed to go back home. Guess I'm lucky.

I have always in the past cleaned my new firearms before shooting them for the first time. Last fall I shot a new G34 for the first time without the first cleaning the thing. It worked fine. Still I think it is a good practice to clean and inspect before shooting for the first.
