Hello everyone,

Had to tell the story of shooting a gun that hasn't been shot in at least 60 years. A Nagoya, Series 1, T99, 7.7 x 58 mm, all matching, complete with AA sights, monopod, long cleaning rod, bayonet, original sling and intact mum. The gun is only missing the original muzzle cap and dust cover (dust cover got lost sometime over the past 6o years).

My grandfather brought it back from one of the island in the Pacific where he grew food for the troops during WWII for the Navy.

I recently got a box of the Hornady Custom ammo for this old warhorse from Graf's for $20.00 a box of 20. To appease the wife, who thinks that the gun is dangerous because it is old, I fired the gun from a remote location via string. Little does she know that this gun is better made than most guns made in this country at the present time. Fired two shots and the brass showed no signs of over pressure or poor headspace. With matching number on the bolt and receiver I was never worried about bad headspace.

After unstrapping the gun from the stand that I used to remotely fire the gun, I shot the gun twice myself. I have shot many shotguns and 22 rifles, but never a high power centerfire rifle. After pulling the trigger on the first round, both my dad and I were laughing our butts off. I flinched so bad in anticipation of the recoil that I almost missed a 2' by 2' piece of cardboard from a distance of twenty yards.

Well, the recoil was not bad at all. Actually it felt less than my 20 guage pump with 3 inch slugs. The second and final shot for the day went much better. Well centered on the target, but very low. This is expected because the sights are regulated for 200 meters if I remember correctly.

I am realy itching to get back to the range with the rifle, but first I need to pick up a slip-on recoil pad to put over the steel butt plate. Not so much for the recoil but to lengthen that God Awful short length of pull on that stock. These guns were defenitely designed for the shorter on average Japanese soldier at the time.

Great experience overall and I really need to get use to the peep sights on the thing too.
