I went to the range yesterday and shot about 200rds of a 9mm mix of 115g XTP's 124g Gold Dots. Both were loaded with Power Pistol. I get normal levels of smoke when shooting these loads.

I also loaded up 50 125g LRN cast bullets I bought at a gun show last month using the same Power Pistol but there was a canon amount of smoke???

I read a little that this may be caused by the wax lube ring? Just want to be sure that this is normal? They were accurate and I was happy to shoot them smoke or not.

It was pretty cool but, at the indoor range it got cloudy fast!

Cast bullets will generate smoke, but an indoor range should have enough air movement so it does not cloud up. When I shoot outdoors, I see the smoke but it goes away fast. The smoke is normal.

The indoor range I shoot at is cheap and the ventilation is lacking to put it mildly! I can shoot all day for $9 but I think I would die from either lead poisoning or smoke inhalation before the day was out!

Most of the smoke is lube, the rest is vaporized lead. Not good.

When you shoot at an indoor range you want to see the fresh air come in behind you and the smoke move toward the targets.

Cast lead is all I shoot in many calibers, all outside at our members only range with no range officer. We get a combination to the gate and come and go as we please.
Smoke from pistolas just gets my testerone going.
Yes, it's very normal.........enjoy!:)

IMO powder choice will also cause more or less smoke with lead bullets and their lube. Power Pistol is on the "hot" side of powders and might cause more smoke than something not quite as hot like W231/HP-38.

IMO W231 is a great choice for the 9mm when loading lead bullets. (or jacketed bullets too)
