Just to fill in some background, I'm from Wisconsin, and am new to the whole hunting thing, in general. (In fact, none of my family has hunted, from my knowledge.) I gave it a go a couple years ago for fall turkey hunting, due to an invitation from my wife's uncle. I enjoyed the challenge of it, even though it took me a month of weekends to get a turkey. And I even plan to try deer or waterfowl hunting, at some point.
I'll be hunting in private hardwood forest with fairly open floors. I have a ground blind setup that I know I can find again from the fall hunt. (Turkeys seemed to meander right through that area.) But it's been a couple years since I went, and I've never gone spring turkey hunting. I have the requisite gear: mouth and pot calls, camo, gun/choke/ammo, etc. But, are there any pointers you guys can give me? Anything on spotting the right turkey? Specific call types (sounds) to use? Any other advice for the newbie hunter?
As a little incentive, here's me after my first turkey season:
