Well, I finally got some time from work and the darn breezy spring winds let up enough to sight in my Springfield SG M1 Garand. 168 Nosler Custom Competion HPBT with 48 grains of Varget handweighed, all cases trimmed and chamfered in/out. From a concrete shooting bench on a caldwell rock rest/protektor rear bunny eared bag. National match front sight and national match .520 aperture rear sight. I did tighten up the gas cylinder on the barrel and checked the op rod for any contact with the handguards before hand. Here's what she did.. Disregard the top right diamond on the first target, that was done with a total different rifle.

We also had a slight easterly wind around 7 mph, hence the slight off target.

Yes it was 100Yds, sorry. I first put it on the 50 to make sure it was close, and oh man those groups were beautiful! Its a Boyd's Stock, with alot of BLO, Tung oil, and steel wool and elbow grease : )

Here's its sibling.. Makes me think of Chuck Mawhinney and Valentine's day 1969.. Except he had a starlight.. Starlight, starbright : )

They are a lot of fun, huh?

You're shooting around 4 MOA -- not bad! I bet you can tighten that up even more with some practice though.

Oh, and you want to have some real fun? Get off the rest and shoot it from field positions with the sling.

I bet you would have a blast if you took those 2 rifles to an Appleseed. They shoot the Army Qualification Tests that were used with those rifles back in the day. It is a great time to go out and see how you stack up on the AQT, and tighten up your marksmanship. Plus you will hear some good Rev War history and where our American heritage of marksmanship came from. I suppose you must like military history and such if you know about Mawhinney.
