I've been meaning to get one of these flags to display at my house. Either tacked up on a wall, or maybe even on a flagpole off the porch.

I'm a bit torn, but mainly inclined to the Fort Moultrie flag (moon & Liberty), as it's American without being too confrontational, but still carries a strong message.

Here are a few of my favorites. I'm strongly tempted to get one for the UT campus range, but really don't want the club to be associated with political partisanship. Though I know that these flags don't spell "Republican", some people might whine about it.

Images from http://www.njflags.com/hifl.html, since they had the widest selection. Not necessarily an endorsement; a lot of these folks carry the same flags:

On August 16, 1777 the "Green Mountain Boys" fought under General Stark at the Battle of Bennington. It's green field represented their name and the thirteen white stars a tribute to the thirteen colonies. A notable victory of the Green Mountain Boys under Ethan Allen, occurred on the morning of May 10, 1775, when they silently invaded the British held Fort Ticonderoga and demanded its surrender "In the name of the great Jehovah and the Continental Congress".

And for all those lamenting the recent turn of the Wheel o' Fortune:

I'm considering replacing the American flag that flies in front of my house with a Gadsden.

Not sure anyone will get it though (and the wife is afraid I'll frighten the neighbors).

How could anyone at the University of Texas object to the second one (with star, cannon, and "Come and take it" logo)? That's the classic Texas Goliad flag, with lots of local history behind it.

Because it's Austin. Travis county (where Austin is located) and Dallas county are the 2 most liberal counties in the state.

Your area's liberalism is all the more reason to fly the flag....peg yourself as a gun owner...and hopefully show them that your actually a pretty good upstanding guy.

There are freedom of expression issues here as well, imagine an American being worried about what Revolutionary War American Flag he should fly ! Damnit man fly the Gadsden ! At least they can be forwarned !

I went another route

I fly a 50 star flag I bought at an old hardware store between Lexington and Concord on a trip with my wife and kids years ago.

I thought it was probably the best way to remember the trip. Now, my youngest is 27, and he still remembers getting the flag after standing on Lexington Battle Green when he was 11 and hearing the story of that April morning.

We have two flags flown around here. The British Union Jack that belonged to my grandfather through WW2 still in great condition. We also have one of the US flags flown on the USS Savannah that my brother in law brought here. We also have some smaller Japanese flags brought back from the Philiphines, Iwo Jima and the Japanese mainland though they don't get flown of course.

I been pondering getting one of the Continental Colors flag. They should go back to it in my opinion but my wife fails to agree.

I vote for The 13 stars with out the year
I have that up on my office wall..... Many of my students understand why I fly it. Some just think it is an historical relic....

I've not spent a whole lot of time in Texas, but I would have thought that Harris County would have had them both beat on that one! (That's Houston for those who don't know Texas counties).

ETA: Thanks for the link. Think I'm gonna get me a Gadsden to hang next to it. And maybe one for home.

Doesn't some online gunshop sell both the classic DeWitt ("COME AND TAKE IT") flag, and a modern variant w/ an M16?

of those flags i like the gadsden flag closely followed by the 13 star flag with or without the year it dont matter to me.
i also like to fly the old rebel flag. one reason being that it pisses off every single liberal that sees :D

I fly a 50 state US Flag on a diagonal staff mounted to my front porch. It flies all of the time and is lighted from below with a weather-proof 250 watt Haligon lamp. :what: You can see it from over a block away and possibly a low Earth orbit. :D

As it flies in all sorts of weather, it speaks to me about this country. Sometimes it's flying proud. Other times it hangs wet, somber and still. Occasionally it get's all wrapped up in itself, but it always reminds of the pledge I have given to it and to the Republic for which it stands.

The "Come and Take It" flag was flown at GONZALES, during the confrontation on 2 OCT 1835. This was said to be the first armed conflict between Texian colonists and Mexican military, and also the first use of the Lone Star by Texas forces.

Details here

Just to tweak the nose of the PC crowd...

Hardee Flag used by the Confederate Army of Tennessee. Think blue field with a white snowball in the center.
