Hi everyone,

I recently picked up a NIB FM Detective from Sarco. For those of you that own or have experience with the Detective model, is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to switch the grips for a set of Navidrex grips, specifically the black micarta version--http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=9563&title=BROWNING HP COMBAT GRIPS

My concern is the screws. Does the FM Detective use the same size screws as the BHP MKII or MKIII? Likewise, would there be any potential issues if I went ahead and replaced those screws with allen head ones?

Thanks! :)

The FM Detective is a standard High Power frame with a shortened slide, isn't it?

The only issue I could see you running into is that I don't know if FM ever updated their design standard to match the slightly different grip style/dimensions that FN switched over to in the 1980s. You may have fitting issues with grips, and some slipping/wiggle (I did on my 60s vintage High Power).

Correct. Everything I've read said that they've kept up with all of the changes made to both the MKII and MKIII, so I would think the grip dimensions would be the same, but hence my question. Given that grips are $50, I want to make sure. :)

Well, I don't have a detective model, but I do have an Argentine HP. Mine uses regular grips and screws, they interchange fine with my Brownings.
