FN .45- Has anyone heard anything on the 15 round count or the reliability of these guns. I am really thinking of getting one. 15 is what I was hoping for in the new XDm .45 or should I wait for the XD to become more than just a magazine page. Any opinion would be helpful, thanks in advance.

"Having owned an FNP-45, and currently owning an XD-45 Tactical, I would hold out for the XDM-45."

Can you add why? I'm considering both.

I have a fnp45 and like it. The mag is happier with 13 rounds in my opinion. I like the double action and single action aspect. I have been having some case bulging with the hotter loads I shoot in my Kimber with the fnp. My son in law has the xd 45 and I like the way it sits in my hand more than the fnp. I have not shot it yet. I am going to check out the new para full size 45's. If I could have my Kimber with 13 rounds and double action on the first shot I would have the perfect pistol for me.

I too have been interested in the FN .45. I have a XD compact .45, but I like that the FN can be SA all the way or DA then SA. I don't know about weight comparision.

I do have a FNH Five Seven (5.7 x 28mm) and after looking at a lot of ballistic gelatin photos, I'm actually giving thought to using it as a primary. The bullet tumbles after impacting and gives impressive wound channels and penentration. Plus, 20 round mags with 30 round mags available, are nice.

I'm considering the FN .45 because I used to carry a Paraordinance P-14-45 and it had 14 round mags, but was very heavy.

I have a FNP-45 purchased in November. It is a large, accurate pistol. The SA trigger is not as good as my match 1911, but with practice I have become quite used to it, producing accurate results at combat ranges.

Unlike some I have had no problems with the hi-cap mags (14 & 15). My only issue was feeding 200 gr LSWC reloads. A combination of polishing the chamber and using a Lee Factor Crimp Die has solved that problem.

There are very limited options for holsters.

Conclusion: accurate, tough, large high capacity gun better suited for open rather than concealed carry. Excellent house gun. I prefer the FNP vs the Springfield primarily because with an exposed hammer I can easily practice dry fire to acclimate to the trigger.

For more information check the FN sub board FNP.

The XD grip is more ergonomic, and only holds 1 less round compared to the flush fit FNP 14 rounder mag. The FNP slide is much wider than it needs to be, IMHO. I had problems using 200 LSWC's in the FNP. I shoot probably 10K of this type bullet a year in my 45's.

I don't know of anyone that buys a DA/SA to primarily use the DA. I see the DA as an emergency first shot, maybe as a second strike in the unlikely event of a light primer strike. The SA on the FNP is light but creepy, the DA stacks like most every other DA; the XD has a typical striker feel, i.e. mushy and vague.

I find the XD to be very simple and robust in internal construction, more ergonomic, slimmer, as accurate as the FNP, cheaper than the FNP, and mags are easier to find as well. You could conceal the XD; it would be difficult with the FNP. The XD has more aftermarket support than the FNP as well.

Don't get me wrong, the FNP is an excellent weapon, but having owned polymers - Glocks, M&P's, Taurus, FNP, and XD, I prefer the XD.

If the XDm 45 is going to be significantly better than the plain XD, I would wait for one.

my FNP-45 will shoot right with my Gold Cup.....will shoot all 15 without crimp just needs OAL @ 1.22 230gr RN 6gr of Unique......over 750rd's down the pipe....no jams....the only reason i don't carry it is i have a Colt Defender

My FNP45USG has become one of my favorite guns... it is very accurate, the trigger in DA was the source of some inaccuracy at first, but after about 200rds it really started to smooth out.

I like the feel of the FN compared to the SA. I also object to the grip safety, totally unnecessary. I feel the FN balances better in the hand, it feels top heavy but the bore axis feels lower in the hand then the XD. The FN also soaks up recoil much more then the XD, it feels like a 9mm. This is no exageration. Another point is that the FN DA/SA or can be SA and Cond 1 carried. I have an extra baseplate for one of my mags, an I have no issues. Lastly, the sights on the FN are much better then the XD's. The FNs are Bomar type combat sights with white dots, the XDs are dots also, but I prefer the slanted type to post.

All great points and thanks for the info I think I'll take the easy route and buy the FN .45 and then buy the XDm when it hits stores.
Thank you all:)
