I have a chance to buy an FN49 in 8mm for $600, is this a good price for one of these? The gun looks like it's in new condition but I really don't know much about the prices of these guns and the prices I do see for them on gunbroker seem to have quite a wide range. From my research I have identified it as one of the CAI imported Egyptian FN49's.

I've always wanted an FN49 but for some reason I seem to rarely cross paths with them.

The 8MM doesn't bring the prices the 30-06 or 7MM versions do, if it has a good bore I would say $600 is a pretty fair price. I have owned a couple of these, very reliable guns accuracy is on par with most MBRs.

The last firearm I bought before I got married was an FN-49 (8mm) in 1995. Got as a consigned piece for $180 bore was good, furniture was beaten up but 40+hours of wood working , removing old cosmoline and gunk and I had that baby looking good. It is a great shooter and very accurate. When I let my father in law use it (God rest his soul), he didn't want to give it back. He loved shooting the Garand, too. One time, I brought the FN-49, Garand and my AG42B (Ljungman) and one ammo can for each rifle (300 rounds each) and we had a ball. Sadly, It was also the last time I shot with him. Sorry for getting off track. I love the FN-49 and it has fond memories for me. A decent one for $550-650 would be reasonable

If it's an original Egyptian FN49, its a very good price if in good shape. If its one of the rifles that CAI had assembled from the spare parts they imported from Egypt, then $600.00 is pretty steep in any condition.
