Could a conversion of a FNP-45 to .50 GI (Guncrafter Industries) be done with gunsmithing? If so should it be done with the 1911 conversion kit or the Glock 21?
It's a thought of mine that struck me since the many fnp45 users say it is the softest recoiling .45 they have fired.

Thoughts, comments, questions, etc.?

I doubt there are many after market barrels available for the FNP/X series. A gunsmith might be able to enlarge the chamber and bore, but I worry that the barrel would be too thin. Magazines are an issue as well.

would it be possible to have a smith alter a conversion kit of a Glock 21/20 or M1911 to "fit" the FNP-45 frame. From what ive read the mags of a .45 acp frirearm can hold and fed .50 GI.

The short answer is no. The designs are too different.

The Glock conversion is a whole new upper assembly, barrel, slide, small parts and magazine. There is no 1911 conversion from 1911 .45 to .50. The conversion from .45 to .50 is for their guns only, which are made on a .50 frame and slide to begin with.

would it be possible to alter the FNP45 to accept a .50 GI barrel? would probably have to alter the slide

You sound like a TV lawyer, is it POSSIBLE?

Maybe, but not very practically.

My question is, how much trouble are you prepared to go to to find a gunsmith who doesn't mind taking time away from his regular work to fool with it and how many thousand dollars are you willing to pay?
Same thing in a revolver, John Linebaugh will convert your .45 Ruger to .500 Linebaugh for $2200 and he already knows what is needed. Add many hours of work to redesign an FN and probably throw away some parts that didn't work and the cost will be much higher.
