Folding Knife Blade Play?

I own a cold steel counter point 1 (the one with the 4" blade) and I normally keep it in a airtight pelican mircocase in order to protect it from moisture causing rust since I live in the humid tropics. Last night, my case(with the counterpoint kept within) fell about 6 feet from the top of my bookshelf onto the hardwood floor below. Upon examination today, I notice that while my folding knife locks open with an firm "click" and the TRIAD LOCK keeps the blade from moving in the vertical dimension, there appears to be a very slight 0.1mm lateral blade movement (blade play) when I try to flex the blade to the left and right (0.05mm on either side) while holding the handle steady with the cutting edge facing downwards. It this normal and to be expected of folding knives? Or did my knife take damage from the fall?

Sounds like normal wear.

No way falling 6' inside a padded pelican case did anything at all to the knife.

You can adjust the hex-head screw on the blade pivot to take out any side play if it needs it.

Tighten it up a little. You'll need the appropriate sized hex wrench and that is usually the problem. Blade play is usually the first thing I look at when checking out a folding knife purchase. I want no blade play but you often see a little horizontal movement.

Can't imagine that you damaged the knife in a padded case from any kind of normal fall. Shouldn't have been damaged even if it wasn't in the case from my way of thinking.

Sounds like normal NEW!!! If you must, you can just tighten it up, but it is not really necessary.

The case was not padded. It's a hard plastic box about the size of a pencil case. Was worried that the shock of impact transmitted itself through the box and into my knife.

If it was closed when the case fell, it shouldn't have affected your knife.
