Yarding today and was happy to find an Ontario Old Hickory butcher knife. You know the sort of bouie shaped bladed two rivet hickory slab handled thing GrandPa cut up a side of whatever with in his butcher shop.

Needs a lot of work but heck for two dollars I figured it would provide a couple of hours of entertainment.

I was excited to find another deeper in the box.....but it was actually something else. Same shape and size seems to be made from stock about the same thickness, even has the roller marks like the Old Hickory but where the scimitar goes it just said "ForgeCrall (trade mark R) Carbon"

The main differences I can see other wise are no name burn/pressed into a handle and the cuttler rivets seem to have smaller heads.

Anyone know anything about these? I am guessing Grocery store knives for Joe or Jane average customer that maybe hung from a plus rack in the kitchen wares department, but thought I would ask before I do too much damage.

Current plans for both are sanding down through accumulated rust, polishing with some steel wool, sharpening and shaping enough to remove a few divots in the edges scubbing the handles, treating them with mineral oil and making some sort of sheath /holder to pack them in our family go packs........or turning one or both into "Injun Knives" for no particular reason with rawhide wrapped handles and maybe beaded sheaths just for giggles.

Anyhow the four bucks for both I paid provided the guilt free entertainment of walking though an old house and looking at other folks life accumulation of treasures that have no value to anyone else with my kids. Who knew they had never seen an electric carving knife?
