Form 1 approval

Awesome. I submitted a form 1 for an SBR last week, hoping it won't take long.
The ATF's 'e-news' said as of end of January form 1 e-files were taking 4 months, didn't seem right since a lot of people are reporting 2-6 weeks.

HR - paper forms are still taking 6 months or more but they've drastically reduced their backlog (from 80K+ to 38K).

Things are moving in the right direction. They just need to get Form 4s back in with website code that scales properly (rather than blame Silencer Shop for paying "too much" taxes).

They way they were rebooting a couple times a day to keep the system running tells me they had memory leaks, which is IT's fault. When things got worse rather than better after they banned batch uploads it did not take them more than a week or so to shut down (probably out of embarrassment).

I just had what may be the modern day record Form 1 approval: 1 day (yes, one) from submitting. Created on Monday morning, pending Monday PM, showed submitted on website Tuesday morning, Approved Tuesday PM.

2 other Form 1s that I submitted January 23 also got kicked through at the same time.

Now, there is a bit of a story that goes along with it, but suffice to say that Mr. Gary N. Schaible is a model government employee.

Now, time to fire up the lathe & start turning Ti:D

is still pending. Maybe an email to Mr. Schaible may help along?

As I noted, there were some special circumstances. Mr. Schaible had kindly contacted me to inform me of an error on an application. He said he could correct it with my permission. Obviously, I gave him the permission but he omitted 1 word from my trust's name. That then resulted in my application being "Disapproved". I immediately filed a new application, then contacted Mr. Schaible. Whether his normal MOA or whether he felt some obligation because of the omission in his effort to correct the original application, he apparently shepherded the application through channels.

Very unusual circumstances, but welcome nonetheless!

Plodder, that sure was helpful intervention on his part.
I don't know if there is anything in my case, but it's curious that the 2 forms submitted the same day, within 10-15 minutes, one is done and the other is pending.
I know that we mere mortals should not ponder the inner workings of the wizards at ATF, but...

I want to send both items to be engraved together.

Dang... I'm right at one month on my first Form 1... hope I see something in the next week or two.

An update:

I emailed Mr. Schaible this morning regarding the two forms and the pending one, asking if maybe there was an error on my part on one of the forms; he promptly responded that it was approved, and the system did not send it out for some reason. And he attached the approved form.
So, both are approved. Both are getting engraved.
And I am a happy camper - will be much happier when I have them back and assembled, and test fired.

Barrel is now cut on the shotgun, I have the 10.5 upper for the AR. So goodness to come.

Plodder thanks for the input.

PDSmith -- shouldn't be much longer for you now.

If you didn't know better, it would almost give you a good feeling about the BATFE wouldn't it? At least it is comforting to know that there is at least 1 honorable, dedicated and helpful employee in the agency. I'm sure there are more. Too bad there is not one such example in the executive branch that is directing the agency:barf::cuss:

Dang. I filed a Form 1 in early December 2013 and it came back late October 2014.

Looks like all those new hires they made last year are finally making a difference...

E-file or paper? E-files are what is taking the shortest amount of time.

I recently had my trust paper form 4 approved in about 10 weeks. Submitted form 1 middle of January and haven't seen any updates on that one. Where are you seeing pending, etc for status updates on yours? I'm new to the whole NFA side.
