Checked my email and saw this on the story reel. The former Marine grabbed his AR-15 to defend his home when he was shot to death by SWAT.

Really a sad story and it's very disconcerting for me that "no-knock" warrants are even issued and this is the result. If a squad of people burst into your house with your family asleep how can you not be expected to take some course of action? At that point all I'd know is people with guns are in my house and I think like anyone else here I'd get my hands on the nearest firearm. What purpose does a "no-knock" warrant even serve? If a suspect is really as dangerous as believed that they need one I don't think that police and SWAT would be handling it and a LOT more investigation would be necessary. How can something like this be justified?!

I live in the middle of nowhere. A few years ago a guy went goofy, beat his wife, threatened to kill her with a bow. They are the first big white house on my road. I am the second. The state cops got lost, if not for the local boys turning them around it could have been our house. Very sad that it happens. Very scary that it happens. I can't imagine that there isn't a better way.

No knock warrants serve to protect the officers serving the warrant, to preclude the destruction of contraband, and to help limit the possibility of escape of suspects.

In this case, it is a tragedy of action on behalf on the deceased. The cops had a valid warrant, correct house, and correctly identified suspect at the house. The warrant was served lawfully. During the course of serving the warrant and despite repeatedly identifying themselves, the suspect went for a gun and ended up being shot.

Maybe there is a better way, but if so, it hasn't been found yet. No knock warrants are used because they work. Warrant service is a very dangerous operation.

A quote from the sheriff office:

"What reasonable person comes to the front door and points a rifle at people?" he said

What should I do when my wife wakes me from my sleep, tells me someone is shooting outside and breaking in?

Tragedy. There has to be a better way.
