I bought a used Forster case trimmer. I was trying to figure out which collet and pilot I need, I learned the Original and Classic models use different (incompatible) sets of collets. So, I need to know if my trimmer is an Original or Classic model.

I couldn't find either of those words on the trimmer. The online pictures I find for the two models seem nearly identical. I realize one is larger. I guess I am supposed to measure some part and somehow know the dimensions of each model.

My used one does have a collet installed. I'm thinking I can remove that and hopefully there will be a collet number on it. That would help me distinguish which model I have.

I just thought it was odd that there was no model name on the product when it seems it is important to know which one you have.

I think the main difference is the Classic is bigger.
The Original has a .490" cutter shaft and the Classic is .552".
At least that's how I identified mine as an Original.

Thanks. That helps.

As a side note, I think the choice of model names is kind of funny. In my mind, Classic and Original are synonyms (both meaning "the same design as the one we built way back then").
