Hi, anyone have any information about the Front Sight Training School in Pahrump, NV? I've received a gift certificate to attend one of their courses and I'm wondering if anyone here knows about them and can offer an opinion??

TIA,

Ralph

I've done the 4-day handgun class and the 4-day M16 class. I thought they were both worthwhile and worth the money. The M16 class may not be as practical as the handgun class, but by the end of the first day I finally figured out how to keep full auto shots right where I wanted them. I also learned how to deliver either a 2 shot burst or a three shot burst based simply on how long I hold the trigger.
For that class you have to buy their ammo (Because you're using their guns) and it wasn't cheap.

After the handgun class I was much more comfortable with my handgun. I felt like I knew how to carry and use it safely. I felt like I could draw and reholster safely. I think they get you to where you can draw from concealment and deliver a controlled pair to center of mass on a target at 7 meters in 2 seconds or less. They work you on after action drills (checking everything around you quickly, then thoroughly after neutralizing the threat.) And they work you on malfunction and reloading drills.

I expect like everybody I met, you'll have a great time and be glad you went.

Any other questions?

I did a two day defensive handgun class and my comments would reflect those above.

Top notch training, you will not regret going.

I don't know anything about the quality of the courses, but is it just me or does the website read like an infommercial?

They definitely are big on marketing. I think they may even have plans to do an informercial on tv. I think it is great how many people they are reaching and introducing to the world of responsible firearm ownership. I think they claim to train more people than all the other major commercial training places combined. I'm not trying to say that their training is that much better, as I haven't been to any of the other schools, but to recognize that they sure don't shy away from marketing.

Understood, and I don't mean to knock them in any way. From what I've heard, it's a good program, just the website - wow! :D

The prices seem very high...$500.00 a day for just about any class.

I guess the school is for stock brokers, doctors, corporate types and other fleecers and scammers, or their trophy wives...

Oye...

Oh well...

I've looked at the promotional materials. One of the owners stated tasks is to make more people informed and comfortable with weapons.

Typical exposure in today's media is generally a semi-hysterical ill-informed sound bite on TV after some mentally-ill person has just killed someone(s).

I think that his approach is so 180 degrees from the standard pitch that it presents guns/weapons in a much more socially accepted manner. The intended audience is not your average "Joe Handgun", rather "Joe Uninformed Citizen."

Considering what it will cost you to get there, stay there, pay for your ammo (I used 600 rounds in a 2 day course), and get back (unless you live nearby) ... $500 is the least of your worries.

Besides, there are plenty of discount certs floating around out there that will let you take the 2 day defensive handgun course for $150 or less.

As with many other things in life ... quality isn't always cheap. For the motorcycle crowd it was always "if you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet ... if not, buy Bell."
